SOD, superoxide dismutase, is an enzyme found in high levels of barley grass.
SOD is one of the most important elements of the body's "antioxidant defense system," which protects the cells against toxic free radicals.1
McCord (1974) found that SOD might have an anti-inflammatory effect (Salin and McCord 1975). This has been considered important in aging (Fee and Teitelbaum 1972).
Cell damage is caused by oxidative stress. Under normal conditions, SOD clears this oxidative stress.
Alfalfa contains eight essential amino acids: lipase, amylase, coagulase, emulsion, invertase, peroxidate, pectinase, and protease. Vitamins and minerals in alfalfa include: Vitamins A, E, U, B6, K, D, calcium, iron, manganese, potassium, phosphorous, chlorine, and sodium.
